DK Metcalf swings helmet at teammate in Seahawks fight

Wednesday’s Seahawks practice felt like the punchline to a Rodney Dangerfield joke when fights broke out at what was supposed to be a normal day of training camp.

A number of physical incidents occurred during the practice, including one in which receiver DK Metcalf swung a helmet and struck one of his teammates — all of which took place as NFL Network broadcasted live near the field in Renton, Washington.

As the panel from the network began to talk, a melee could be seen developing behind them, and Metcalf, at one point, took cornerback Tre Brown’s helmet and tried to strike him with it but instead caught safety K’Von Wallace, The Athletic reported.

More players joined the fray, but the situation was contained before escalating any further.

A fight broke out at Seahawks cameras — and was captured by NFL Network.

It was serious enough that Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald paused practice to speak with his players, according to the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta

Macdonald told NFL Network that he put some of the blame on the fact the players had been “tired” of playing each other so much.

“We’re right on the line right now,” he said. “I think the guys realize that. Hey, let’s take care of one another. Definitely don’t want people fighting out here, especially against our own teammates. Then DK gave a great message at the end of practice, just kind of putting everything in perspective. The guys finished it out the right way. So, proud of our guys.”

Earlier, Brown had gotten into a shoving match with receiver Jake Bobo, who lost his helmet and took a punch to the face from the defensive back.

Another incident involved linebacker Tyrel Dodson and tight end Pharaoh Brown when they started shoving each other.

Brown was apparently angered over the fact that Dodson had hit running Kenneth Walker III after the play and then after that, the incident with Metcalf took place.

Two other instances occurred between players, which led to linebacker Derick Hall and offensive lineman Christian Haynes being ejected from the rest of practice.

Seattle plays its first game of the preseason on Saturday against the Chargers.
