Did Steelers get benefit of bad review on last-minute drive? (Video)
The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a memorable victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday night, honoring Franco Harris in the process. But did they get bailed out?
Pittsburgh’s offense looked downright putrid in primetime, up until the final drive of the game. Rookie Kenny Pickett, who was drawing out frustration from Yinzer moms and dads everywhere, led a game-winning drive to give the Steelers the lead with less than a minute remaining.
Pickett looked a lot like his predecessor, Ben Roethlisberger, in leading a game-winning drive in a huge moment. The Steelers honored Franco Harris on Saturday, but sadly the Hall-of-Fame running back passed away just days before the ceremony. On the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, Pittsburgh fans celebrated with heavy hearts.
As for the Steelers players, they were able to send fans home happy, and perhaps receive some motivation thanks to their 12th man.
Did Steelers, Kenny Pickett receive benefit of bad review?
Pittsburgh was able to stay alive in their postseason chase, and are now 7-8 on the season. Assuming the Chargers and Dolphins don’t BOTH win on Sunday, they’ll remain in contention for another week.
On the team’s final drive, Kenny Pickett picked up a fourth-down conversion on a quarterback sneak. The call was close, and had to be reviewed by the head official. While the spot was confirmed, former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman was unhappy with the decision.
Definitely, Shawne?
The officials, the broadcast booth and even Terry McAuley confirmed the decision on the field. Very few on social media questioned the call in the moment, and there isn’t an angle that confirms a wrong choice by the refs on the field.
In order to overturn the call on the field, the replay must be obvious. That’s simply how it goes in the NFL. Sorry, Shawne.
