Despite statement win, Packers biggest problem still remains

Even though the Green Bay Packers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it does not overshadow one glaring issue they have.

One of the big matchups of Week 3 was between the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This was the fifth and possibly final time that Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers would face off head-to-head.

The Packers were victorious, as they held on to defeat the Buccaneers 14-12. Tampa Bay appeared close to tying the game with a two-point conversion, but Brady’s pass to wide receiver Russell Gage fell incomplete.

Even with the win and improving their record to 2-1, the Packers receiving corps still needs help.

Packers wide receivers still an issue despite Week 3 win

Of course, the big storyline entering the 2022 season was how Green Bay would overcome the losses of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The team used three draft picks on Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure, while also signing veteran Sammy Watkins.

With a new receiving corps, there will be some growing pains. But things only got worse for Green Bay. Watkins was placed on the injured reserve this week due to a hamstring injury that will knock him out for a minimum of four games. Additionally, the Packers ruled out Watson due to a hamstring injury.

In the game against the Buccaneers, the Packers relied on receivers Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Juwann Winfree, and Doubs, and tight ends Robert Tonyan and Tyler Davis. Doubs was the most effective of them all, as he caught all eight of his targets for 73 yards and a touchdown, the first of his career.

The offense was far from electric. Luckily for Green Bay, Tampa Bay was without Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Julio Jones. This past week, the team signed former Buffalo Bills wideout Cole Beasley.

Even with the win, Green Bay will need this wide receivers corps to be at full health, and possibly add more names to their depth chart, if they plan on staying atop the NFC North and competing for a Super Bowl this season.
