As his 2022-23 season is already in the books with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dennis Schröder got an important duty to fulfill for his country up next.

The veteran guard confirmed in his exit interview on Tuesday that he is eyeing to represent Germany in the upcoming 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

“I’m gonna take off a week or two weeks from now. Spend my time with my family because they sacrificed so much just being there for me. My wife doing everything for me so that I can be on the highest level of my playing,” Schröder said.

“I go back to Germany to see my family there, my friends. Couple of weeks later, the training camp starts for World Cup. I wanna play for sure and I can’t wait to write another history in summer. That would be crazy for Germany, myself, for the federation so I’m ready for it.”

Germany was drawn to a highly competitive Group E in the last World Cup Draw, as the nation is set for a Group Phase battle against Japan, Australia and Finland in Okinawa.

With this, all eyes are already watching how Schröder will fare up against his teammate in Rui Hachimura. The German point man went on to reveal that he is hoping that Hachimura will finally suit up in wake of his uncertainty to play for the Japanese squad.

“He said he might not play. I don’t know what his situation is. But we played once like in 2019. … I can’t wait to play in Japan, against Japan as well. The crowd is going to be crazy, insane and I can’t wait for it. Hopefully Rui is going to play as well,” he said.

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup hosted by Philippines, Japan and Indonesia is set to commence from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10.
