D’Angelo Russell no issue on benching in Lakers win vs Wolves
D’Angelo Russell got no ill-hard feelings on the benching he experienced in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 108-102 overtime Play-In dub over the Minnesota Timberwolves last Tuesday.
“I think I can get it going at any point in the game. I just got to be there to do it,” Russell said after the team practice on Friday, per Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times. “If I’m not in the game, coach felt a different route, I’ve got to live with that. But if he did come with me at the end of the game, I could easily … make 10 shots in a row. Just that type of a player.
“… We needed to win, honestly. We needed to win. For me to dwell on it and be upset or confidence low, I don’t think that’s the right approach. Definitely want to do anything and everything I can do to not be in that position in the future.”
Russell struggled throughout the evening against the Wolves, finishing with just two markers in a lowly 1-for-9 shooting in 24 minutes of play as he was smothered by Anthony Edwards’ defense. Still, he made an impact on the other way around, dishing out eight assists.
The star guard can still deliver a payback performance with the Lakers set to start their best-of-seven against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.
