Cristiano Ronaldo says the problem at Manchester United is not the coach and hinted at wider issues related to the Glazers.

United sit 14th in the Premier League table following last night’s 2-0 defeat at Wolves.

Ruben Amorim was brought in a month ago to replace Erik ten Hag but results have not improved with the Portuguese taking seven points from his first seven league games in charge.

Asked about the situation at Old Trafford, Ronaldo told the Globe Soccer Awards: “[The] Premier League, it’s the most difficult league in the world.

“All the teams are good, all the teams fight, all the teams run, all the teams are strong. Football is different right now. There’s no easy games any more.

“I said this one year and a half ago, and I will continue to say it: The problem is not the coaches, it’s like… I always give this example… it’s like an aquarium.

“If you have the fish inside and he’s sick and you take him out and you fix the problem and you put him again in an aquarium you will be sick again.

“The problem of Manchester United is the same. The problem is not always the coach. It’s much more than that.”

I will adjust things – Ronaldo

Asked if he felt that was the situation currently, he added: “100 per cent. If I will be the owner of the club, I will make things clear and adjust things that are bad there.”

And while he did not say he would one day own Manchester United, Ronaldo did claim he would follow in the footsteps of former Old Trafford hero David Beckham and own a major club at some point.

Asked if had spoken to the Glazers, he said: “I am still very young and have so many plans and dreams ahead but, mark my words, I will be an owner of a big club, for sure.”
