Cristiano Ronaldo retains his place for Man United vs Omoni Nicosia – Man United News And Transfer News

Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line for Manchester United again tonight as they continue their Europa League odyssey against Omonia Nicosia.

Elsewhere, Tyrell Malacia is recalled ahead of Luke Shaw but the rest of the defence remains unchanged, with David de Gea in goal and Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez occupying the other positions.

In midfield, Christian Eriksen is rested, with Casemiro partnering Fred, as he does for the Brazil national side.

Bruno Fernandes is captain and once again plays in the number 8/10 hybrid role.

Against expectations, Jadon Sancho is not recalled, with Marcus Rashford and Antony playing on the wings.

Sancho will be on the bench alongside two goalkeepers – Martin Dubravka and Tom Heaton, Raphael Varane, Shaw, Eriksen, Scott McTominay, Zidane Iqbal, Anthony Elanga, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri.

McTominay’s absence, even though he is ineligible for Sunday’s Premier League tie with Newcastle due to suspension, is something of a surprise.

Charlie McNeill did not make the bench, meaning that there are no forwards available should Ronaldo need replacing.

Once again, Erik ten Hag has been true to his word about fielding a strong side.

The only changes from the starting lineup that beat Everton on Sunday are Fred for Eriksen and Malacia for Shaw.

In Fred‘s case it might be about giving him minutes, especially given McTominay’s ban. For Malacia it may be more about giving him a confidence boost and maintaining the pressure on Shaw.

Kick off at Old Trafford is at 8pm.
