Commanders trade for Browns’ Cade York after Brandon McManus scandal

The Washington Commanders continue to scramble to find a kicker.

They acquired Cade York from the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, trading a conditional seventh-round pick for the 23-year-old, according to multiple reports.

Washington had signed veteran Brandon McManus to a one-year, $3.6 million contract in March, but he was cut in June after the 33-year-old was accused of sexually assaulting a pair of flight attendants on the Jaguars’ flight to London last September.

The two women sued McManus and the Jaguars, alleging that McManus grinded up against them.

One of the flight attendants accused McManus of trying to kiss her.

The Jaguars were also accused of “gross negligence” over the flight, which “quickly turned into a party.”

McManus’ lawyer, Brett R. Gallaway, called the allegations “absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false” in a statement at the time.

McManus spent one season with Jacksonville after playing nine years for the Broncos, going 30-for-37 on field-goal attempts in 2023.

York was a fourth-round pick out of LSU by the Browns in 2022 but he struggled as a rookie, going 24-for-32 on field-goal attempts, which included three misses in the 30-39-yard range.

When his struggles continued in the following preseason, he was cut and joined the Titans’ practice squad.

He spent time with the Giants last year but did not appear in a game and was placed on IR in December after suffering a quad injury.

The Browns, who have Dustin Hopkins as their starting kicker, then brought York back in March.

The Commanders cut Riley Patterson Thursday morning after he went 2-for-4 on field-goal attempts in a preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday. They cut Ramiz Ahmed last week.
