Chris Drury put Rangers in a much better place after chaotic day

At the end of the day — literally — the Rangers are in a far better position than when the sun came up Friday.

The Blueshirts are swimming in cap space after trading Jacob Trouba to Anaheim to close a difficult chapter of the lame-duck captain’s career; they locked up franchise goaltender Igor Shesterkin on an eight-year extension for the wholly equitable $11.5 million cap hit per; and they are even two points to the good after their 4-2 Garden takedown of the Penguins that represented the club’s most disciplined performance in weeks.

There is no question that there was trauma in essentially forcing Trouba out the door by threatening that he would be put on waivers if he did not accept a trade to alternate options he was presented.
