Charlamagne tha God challenged Whoopi Goldberg over President Biden’s controversial pardon of his scandal-scarred son, Hunter, asking, “Why can’t you say when Democrats are wrong?” while appearing on “The View” Wednesday.
“The Breakfast Club” host sparred with Goldberg as the two liberal figures bickered over the 82-year-old president’s decision to let Hunter off the hook for any federal offenses over the past decade after previously claiming he would not intervene in his 54-year-old son’s criminal problems.
Charlamagne called the criticism against Biden “valid” because “Democrats stand on this moral high ground all the time” and “act so self-righteous.”
“The reality is, he didn’t have to say anything in regards to whether or not his son wanted to be pardoned … but since they were calling (President-elect Donald) Trump a threat to democracy and they were saying that nobody is above the law, but they were speaking about him, that’s what they were running on,” he added.
Goldberg quickly pushed back that Americans didn’t know that Biden was lying when he insisted he would not help Hunter, who had two sentencings hanging over his head for federal gun and tax evasion convictions.
Biden claimed in his statement Sunday he decided to make the about-face over Thanksgiving break.
“We don’t know why he changed his mind,” Goldberg said, with a perplexed Charlamagne cutting in, “You really think he changed his mind over Thanksgiving weekend all of sudden?”
Goldberg shot back that Biden was sick of “watching everybody else get over” before he changed his tune.
As the two kept clashing, Charlamagne argued supporters of both major political parties lack any objectivity — akin to rooting for a favorite sports team.
“When it comes to political parties, if you pick a side, if you say you’re a Democrat or you say you’re a Republican you refuse to be objective about anything,” he said.
“Democrats are not a monolith,” Goldberg exclaimed, before Charlamagne asked, “Why can’t you say when Democrats are wrong?”
“And why can’t Republicans say when Republicans are wrong,” he added.
While Goldberg claimed she faults Dems on the show, she continued to insist Biden did nothing wrong.
“Well, that’s ridiculous,” he said of her defense of the outgoing 46th president.
The tense standoff ended on good terms, though, when Charlamagne got up from his seat to hug Goldberg after he told him to come over and give her a kiss.
“Neither one of them has the moral high ground,” Charlamagne said of Dems and the GOP.
“That’s what I’m trying to get people to understand. When you are a die-hard Democrat or a die-hard Republican you refuse to be objective about the other party.”
