Celtics almost had Tyus Jones instead of Jrue Holiday

According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, if the Boston Celtics had completed their initial trade for Kristaps Porzingis, they might not have had enough assets left to acquire Jrue Holiday in September.

The Celtics’ plans included trading Malcolm Brogdon to the Los Angeles Clippers and sending Marcus Morris and the No. 30 pick to the Washington Wizards, but the Clippers backed out over medical concerns about Brogdon.

Instead, the Celtics consolidated their deals, which involved sending Tyus Jones to the Wizards and keeping Brogdon, who later played a key role in their trade for Jrue Holiday.
