Molly Ringwald is getting candid about the difficulties she faced as a young actress. 

While looking back on her experiences in Hollywood as a teen and young adult, the Pretty in Pink star shared insight into her complicated relationship with the industry.

“I never really felt like I was part of a community when I was in Hollywood, just because I was so young,” Molly said on the May 27 episode of the WTF with Marc Maron podcast. “I wasn’t into going out to clubs. I feel like I’m more social now than I was then. I was just too young.”

“I was taken advantage of,” Molly shared. “You can’t be a young actress in Hollywood and not have predators around.”

“I was definitely in questionable situations,” she continued. “But I do have an incredible survival instinct and a pretty big super-ego and managed to figure out a way to protect myself. But it can be harrowing.”

“I’m now grateful for the love that I do have now, but I did not want to get divorced,” she explained. “I do want love, you know? That’s the piece is too, like, even just with the upcoming wedding, there’s embarrassment with it that people don’t know the whole story. They just see a headline.”

Because behind the headline, Jana emphasized, is her hard-earned fairytale ending. 

“I feel in my soul that I have my happily ever after,” she said. “And I’m so grateful now for those past relationships that have led me to Allan.”

And Allen proven he’s fully embraced his new blended family. When the 43-year-old popped the question in May 2023, six and a half months into his and Jana’s relationship, he made sure to include her kids in the sweet moment. 

“It was a really beautiful night,” the country singer gushed of her proposal on Whine Down at the time. “We were all sitting on the porch of the steps and looking out at the view, it’s stunning. And he said my name and I got up or whatever and he got down on one knee and then Jolie just started jumping up and down, it was the cutest thing ever, it was like she knew what was happening.”

Paige sensed just how tough the chat might be the moment her mom asked them to hop on a call.

“I had an instant gut feeling something was off,” she told E! News. “As soon as she told us the bad news, I felt like I was in shock and then quickly hit with a whirlwind of emotions. Not only was I scared, I was angry, sad, and confused why this would happen to someone as amazing as my mother.”

The prevailing feeling, however, was fear as she remembered all the trauma that came with watching her maternal grandmother endure her own cancer battle. 

“We lost my Nana to cancer in 2019,” Paige explained, “so I understood the long road we had ahead of us and it pained me to imagine my mother having to endure that same feeling.”

In that regard, she and Brooke were in lockstep.

“We watched my Nana battle cancer for years so I knew that we were at the start of a very long and challenging road,” echoed Brooke. “I hated that I had to watch another important person in my life go through it.”

She pointed to Dr. Marc Feldman, a psychiatrist who specializes in MBP, as one of the few who can give actual credence to her mother’s diagnosis after he interviewed Gypsy for 2017’s Mommy Dead and Dearest.

“Don’t ask me to advocate,” she said at the end of her message. “I AM HEALING.”

Her childhood abuse affected her relationship with her mother, who was stabbed to death in 2015. Gypsy—who pled guilty to second-degree murder—alleged Dee Dee made both her and the public believe she had various illnesses, including cancer, despite not actually being sick.

According to Gypsy, the abuse was centered around the mental health disease Munchausen By Proxy—in which the “caregiver feigns, exaggerates or induces illness in (another person) with the primary goal being to get attention, sympathy and praise,” Dr. Feldman explained to Today.com earlier this year.

Still, despite her hardships, Gypsy has been trying to maintain a hopeful attitude.

“Stay positive,” she captioned a May 7 TikTok post, “there is always hope.”

She shared a similar sentiment on Instagram, writing, “There is a beauty in the struggle of overcoming your past. #selflove.”
