Ellen Pompeo rose to household name status on Grey’s Anatomy. She finally stepped back from the series, with her last episode airing on the 19th season premiere in February of 2023. But on January 15, 2024, she’s set to reunite with the cast in order to present at the Emmy Awards.

After leaving the wildly popular series, Ellen then turned her attention to a limited series for Hulu. In September of 2022, she spoke out about leaving Greys and the future ahead. “I’m so excited,” Ellen exclusively told HollywoodLife at the D23 Expo, where she was named a Disney Legend along with her former co-star Patrick Dempsey. “I feel really happy and grateful that the company gave me an opportunity to do something different with my new limited series.”

She also has likely found some extra time to spend with her family, including her adorable husband Chris Ivery. The couple might just have the sweetest meet cute story of all time. Two years before her star-making turn on the hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, Ellen met her future husband in a Los Angeles grocery store. Throughout the interaction in 2003, the pair discovered they grew up just 10 miles away from each other in Boston, Massachusetts, and marveled at the coincidence. “We were six degrees our whole lives, so I feel like we were sort of meant to be,” Ellen later told people. The future couple were friends for six months, before their relationship took a romantic turn, and they’ve gone from strength to strength ever since.

Who Is Ellen Pompeo’s Husband?

Chris Ivery met his future wife in 2003. Despite her status as one of the biggest names in Hollywood, he has maintained a relative amount of anonymity, and doesn’t have any social media. He was a record producer and song writer for almost three decades, notably earning a co-writing credit on “Cheers (Drink to that)” by Rihanna in 2011. However, in 2019, he made a career change and set his sights on the fashion industry. One of his favorite brands, Sergio Tacchini, was difficult to locate in the United States, so he reached out to the brand directly. Chris discussed relaunching the Sergio Tacchini label in Los Angeles, and thus, the STLA Collection was born. Ellen was super proud of her husband following his passion, no matter his age. “He’s been in the music business for 25 years and he changed careers at 50. And he killed it,” she told Us Weekly. “I mean, knocked it out of the park. It’s amazing! So for anybody who feels they’re stuck, you can change your career at any age.”

How Long Have They Been Married?

Chris popped the question in November 2006, three years after their fateful meeting in a grocery store, with a 3.5-carat diamond ring. They officially said their ‘I do’s on November 9, 2007 at New York City Hall. The NYC mayor at the time, Michael Bloomberg, officiated the wedding. “We flew out on a redeye Thursday night. Friday morning, we woke up, went to City Hall, had the wedding really quick, and then we went to Lupa for lunch after,” Ellen told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest in 2017. “We had the whole weekend and no one knew, so we had that to ourselves.” As for the actress’ marriage tips, Ellen said in 2018, “Just don’t try to change people. They are who they are, and they were fine when you married them, so don’t expect them to change.”

Do They Have Children?

Chris and Ellen have three children: daughters Stella Luna and Sienna May and son Eli Christopher. Stella was born in 2009, and Ellen hid her pregnancy under her scrubs for as long as she could while playing Meredith Grey. Although her character was temporarily written out of the show when she went on maternity leave to be with baby Stella, the youngster eventually began visiting the set. “Yesterday I went in to find her [and] she was with Linda with a bone drill, drilling a fake femur bone with a real bone drill. She was supervised, but they have her doing advanced procedures,” Ellen told Ellen DeGeneres in 2020. Perhaps she’ll follow in her mom’s fictional characters’ footsteps.

“She needs to decide whether she wants to be an orthopedic surgeon or an emergency room doctor,” Ellen continued, jokingly adding, “She needs to nail it down. I mean, seriously, she’s confusing me.” The couple then welcomed Sienna, who was born in 2014 via surrogate, followed by baby Eli who arrived in 2016.

In 2018, Ellen opened up about what her children had taught her. “That every mistake and every moment is a teaching moment,” she told InStyle at the time. “I make a lot of mistakes. You just learn. Kids are just so open and honest, and you could get down on yourself a lot as a parent, like ‘Oh I’m not there enough.’ It’s easier to beat yourself up and feel guilty. But you can’t adopt a sort of victim’s attitude, you have to adopt an optimistic, can do, ‘how do I fix it?’ attitude with kids. You can’t sort of wallow in your own self-pity. ‘I should have done this, I should have done that,’ there’s no time to do that if someone’s life is in your hands.”

“Though coming from a complicated past, Lily Bloom has always known the life she wants,” the film’s synopsis read. “While living in Boston, she meets neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid and believes she may very well have found her soul mate. Soon, however, questions arise about their relationship, and to complicate matters her high school love interest, Atlas Corrigan, comes back into the picture, putting her relationship with Ryle in jeopardy.”

Nine months after becoming a first-time grandmother to Rumer Willis‘ daughter Louetta, the G.I. Jane actress gushed about what a delight it is having a baby in her life.

“She’s just a pure joy,” Demi exclusively told E! News at a Jan. 11 screening of Common Ground. “It really is all the cliches. You get all the fun and joy, and you get to go to bed early and have a good night’s sleep.”

Rumer welcomed Louetta in April 2023 with musician Derek Richard Thomas. “You have changed my life in the most profound way,” the House Bunny actress said of her daughter on Instagram in May. “It is the privilege and honor of my life to be your Mother and I will do everything and anything for you always.”

Rumer and Demi—along with her other daughters Scout, 32, and Tallulah, 29—have been very open about the way their lives have shifted, not just after baby Louetta, but also with Bruce Willis‘ ongoing health battle. The family shared in March 2022 that the Die Hard actor had been diagnosed with aphasia, followed by frontotemporal dementia one year later.

Ian Somerhalder isn’t thirsting to sink his teeth into another role.

In fact, the Vampire Diaries alum doesn’t even miss acting after moving to a farm outside of Los Angeles with his wife Nikki Reed to concentrate on family—including their 6-year-old daughter and 6-month-old son—and reconnect with nature.

“I love what I did for a really long time,” Ian told E! News at the Jan. 11 screening of Common Ground in partnership with Maker’s Mark. “I love making films, I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run.”

However, Ian does look back on set life fondly, describing it as a “community” and a “family.”

“But this is our 2.0 version,” he said, before turning to Nikki with a smile, “about to be 3.0 version.”

In the couple’s new dawn, Ian, 45, and Nikki, 35, are focused on creating a better future for the next generation. That’s why they got involved as executive producers on Common Ground, a follow-up to the 2020 documentary Kiss the Ground about how the “regenerative agriculture” movement could help with the global food system and Earth’s climate.

The Only Murders in the Building star revealed that when it comes to her longtime BFF’s many, many hits, she thinks “Wildest Dreams” stands above the rest.

“I think this is one of her, if not, I mean I guess I shouldn’t say this, but I do think it’s one of her best songs,” Selena explained while guest-hosting Sirius XM Hits 1. “It’s incredibly well done. The lyrics, everything. Just the melodies—it’s one of my favorites that no matter when it comes on, I will just blast it in any mood I’m in.”

During her guest DJ outing, she also played tracks by Doja Cat, Frank Sinatra and Ariana Grande, with her sharing exactly why she loves the “yes, and?” singer like a love song as well.

“I cannot do anything fun without listening to Ariana,” Selena gushed. “I feel so empowered, and I think she’s incredible and I just have so much fun, so I’m the girl that’s playing Ariana all the time and I think people kind of notice that, but I love it. I think she’s amazing.”

Tom Holland and Zendaya are still sticking together.

Amid rumors the Spider-Man costars have broken up, Tom cleared the air on Jan. 12, saying the pair are “absolutely not” split up, as seen in a video obtained by TMZ. The actor—who still follows Zendaya on Instagram—was pictured in a green hoodie while walking to his car in Los Angeles.

The pair, who play onscreen love interests Peter Parker and MJ in the Spider-Man films, first sparked romance rumors in 2017 and officially confirmed their marvelous romance in 2021 with a PDA session in Los Angeles.

The steamy outing came after years of speculation about their relationship status. And although they kept their romance private in the early days, Tom and Zendaya, both 27, grew more comfortable discussing their relationship over the years.

“My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays,” Tom wrote on Instagram in Sept. 2021 in honor of Zendaya’s special day. “Gimme a call when your up xxx.”

In the show’s second season, the main characters were all reeling in their own ways.

The look of Dern’s Renata—who refuses to not not be rich even in the face of financial and marital ruin—was “powerful, very structured, designer conscious, body-conscious, expensive and with a sharply defining silhouette,” Friedberg told Fashionista. “In season two, we amplified that a bit as the walls are caving in on her.” 

Kravitz’s yoga teacher Bonnie, who’s understandably taking their shared secret the hardest, once popped in her “sexy, drape-y, boho, earthy thing,” Friedberg explained. But in season two Bonnie is “really struggling,” and her style “becomes much more shapeless, colorless and thoughtless. In a way, it’s a prison uniform.”

Jane, meanwhile, is no longer harboring at least one traumatic secret, so Woodley’s character is “a little more confident,” the designer said, and has “very casually adopted this vintage California surf vibe.”
