Mornings will never be the same for April Simpkins, mother of late beauty queen Cheslie Kryst.

In January, April lost her 30-year-old daughter—a former Miss USA who worked as a lawyer and Extra TV correspondent—to suicide at age 30. On a May 4 episode of Jada Pinkett Smith‘s family talk show Red Table Talk, now streaming on Facebook Watch, April shared that Chelsie, the second-eldest of her six children, was her “best friend” and an essential part of her mornings.

“She was the first person I talked to when I woke up,” April said. “We would literally just go about our morning, Facetiming each other. She’d be putting on her makeup, I’d be getting myself ready at my desk. ‘How’s your day?’ ‘What’s going on?’ So to not have that makes mornings awful for me.”

Cheslie died around 7 a.m. on January 30. “I was leaving my [exercise] class,” April said. “I was going to call her on my way home and when I looked at my phone, I noticed there was a text message from her.”

Producer and director Darren Genet popped the question to the Vampire Diaries alum while the two were vacationing in Mexico for his birthday last week, according to People.

Kat, 32, and Darren, 52, have not publicly addressed the engagement, but a source told the publication that she is “madly in love and couldn’t be happier.”

On May 4, a.k.a. Star Wars Day, Disney+ released a full-length trailer for the latest series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which takes place 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith. In the preview, Ewan McGregor‘s Jedi Master character watches over a young Luke Skywalker, who is being raised by his uncle Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton) and aunt Beru Whitesun Lars (Bonnie Piesse) on Tatooine. 

Obi-Wan seeks out Owen and tells him that he wants to train Luke, to which the farmer replies, “Like you trained his father?”

The Jedi Master winces at the reminder that Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) went to the dark side in Revenge of the Sith, but he’s not deterred by Owen, seemingly intent on sticking around in the hopes of protecting the young potential Jedi.

The preview also teases Anakin’s transformation into Sith Lord Darth Vader, with one scene showing his suit being put together before the iconic breathing sound plays over the trailer.

More details surrounding Kailia Posey‘s death have been released.

In a statement shared to TMZ on May 3, the family of the former Toddlers & Tiaras star confirmed she died by suicide. She was 16 years old.

“Although she was an accomplished teenager with a bright future ahead of her, unfortunately in one impetuous moment, she made the rash decision to end her earthly life,” the family’s statement read. “She won countless crowns & trophies after competing on the pageant circuit her entire life … Her highly acclaimed talent as a contortionist had already led to professional touring job offers, and she had recently been selected to be a cheerleader at her high school next fall.”

News of Kailia’s death was first confirmed by her mother, Marcy Posey Gatterman, on May 2 in a Facebook post. Alongside a photo of the teen in a glittery gold gown, the matriarch wrote, “I don’t have words or any thoughts. A beautiful baby girl is gone.”

The pair crossed paths at the “After” party at Casa Cipriani, as seen in a video shared by TikTok user @deannamarienyc. Jacob and Leonardo are seen shaking hands before Leonardo says, “The show’s amazing.”

And it’s not the first time Leonardo has declared his love for the hit HBO series. In a 2019 interview with Variety, the actor explained that he had just watched the first season of Euphoria, also adding at the time that the show was “amazing.”
