Carson Wentz reaching new lows with Commanders in training camp
There weren’t exactly high hopes for Carson Wentz as he joins the Washington Commanders this season, but he’s failing to even clear that low bar.
It was a near-unanimous sentiment whenever Carson Wentz was traded to the Washington Commanders that it was not going to be a beneficial move for the franchise. Wentz struggled quite a bit, particularly down the stretch, in Indianapolis in the 2021 season and has been on a steady decline for several years.
Suffice it to say that there wasn’t exactly overflowing optimism about what another change of scenery would do for Wentz.
But even then, it’s wild to see how terribly things are going for the former Top 2 pick in Washington.
Carson Wentz struggling even in easiest drills at Commanders camp
According to a report from Commanders camp on Tuesday, Wentz is struggling to make even the easiest throws in practice, sailing balls and missing receivers in what can be referred to as the NFL’s version of a lay-up line.
Considering that Wentz’s accuracy, though not ideal, was not the biggest issue with his on-field performance with the Colts, that makes this situation even more troubling for the Commanders.
As of now, Washington is looking at a quarterback who has been making questionable decisions, who has dealt with plenty of injuries, and who now couldn’t hit water if he threw a football out of a boat. Talk about a not-great quarterback situation.
What’s intriguing is that there are also reports out of DC that fifth-round rookie Sam Howell has looked great thus far in training camp. If Wentz struggles, do the Commanders just cut their losses and see what the rookie has?
The way things are trending, that might end up being the least painful option for Washington.
