Bruno Fernandes’ outrageous goal brings up 50 in the Premier League – Man United News And Transfer News

It’s not often that a player scores a goal from the half-way line and his thunder is stolen by one of his teammates.
In a way, that is Bruno Fernandes’ career at Old Trafford in a nutshell.
In spite of putting in vital performance after performance for his side, he still has his fair share of critics and people can often overlook the work he puts in for the team.
This could be seen in the midfielder chasing back in the final minutes of the game to snuff out Liverpool’s last gasp attacks.
Yesterday’s sumptuous strike from just inside Liverpool’s half was a milestone moment for the United captain, as it not only dragged his side back into the contest but it was his 50th Premier League for the club.
Nonetheless, Kobbie Mainoo’s beautiful second goal has received more of the plaudits.
The Red Devils had put in a lifeless performance up to that point as even the biggest Red Devils fan would have admitted that their arch-rivals were on top.
However, a loose pass by Jarrell Quansah allowed Fernandes to run onto the ball and from just inside the centre circle, lift it over the helpless keeper, Caoimhin Kelleher.
It was an outrageous finish, especially in the context of the game. It is one thing to take that type of shot on when you are 3-0 up and coasting but to have the valour to take it on when losing at home to Liverpool is quite another.
The Manchester United official website stated, “our no.8’s guided finish brought up goal no.50 for him in the Premier League, just over four years after he moved here from Sporting Club in Lisbon”.
“It’s taken 154 games for Fernandes to achieve the feat, with the ever-reliable midfielder only actually missing five fixtures since joining, all through suspension or illness”.
“Bruno has become just the 12th Red to reach the half-century since the league was rebranded in 1992, with team-mates Marcus Rashford (83) and Anthony Martial (63) also members of the 50-up club”.
The United captain is still a long way behind Wayne Rooney’s record of 183 Premier League goals for the club but he has become only the fourth midfielder to achieve the feat after Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham.
“Bruno is now in double figures for goals for the fifth straight season as a Red, having scored 12, 28, 10 and 14 times during his four full campaigns before this one”.
“His next goal will be his 75th for United”.
