Broken jar of salsa prompts closure of popular pool in Mass. , $20K cleanup

Now this swimmer’s catching heat.

Someone shattered a glass jar of salsa at a popular community pool in Massachusetts — prompting its closure during a heatwave and up to $20,000 in clean up fees, officials said Friday.

The Rosemary Recreation Complex, a lap pool with a towering waterslide in Needham, was shuttered after shards of glass flew into the water Sunday, the Needham Observer reported.

An extensive clean-up — which includes draining the 220,000 gallon pool, chemically rebalancing and testing it for bacteria — will likely cost the town $15,000-$20,000, according to the outlet.

Local officials got a little spicy over the hot sauce snafu.

“The entire community suffers both the loss of our pool and in the purse all because one person decided to bring a jar of salsa to the pool,” Massachusetts State Senator Becca Rausch said in a Facebook post

“Please do not bring glass to the pool. It’s not hard to follow this and the other rules. They exist for our collective enjoyment and personal health and safety.”

Park and Recreation Director Stacey Mulroy initially said it was unclear how long it would be before folks could take a dip — as temperatures soared into the mid-90s in the area week.

“As a reminder — there is absolutely NO GLASS of any kind allowed anywhere at the Rosemary Pools,” Mulroy wrote on Facebook. “Today’s incident was avoidable and unfortunate.”

By Thursday afternoon, the pool reopened Thursday afternoon, Needham Park and Recreation said on Facebook.
