Boston Announces Season-Long Suspension For Coach Ime Udoka

Editor’s Note: Boston formally announced that Ime Udoka would serve a season-long suspension due to “violations of team policies.”

Editor’s Note: According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Ime Udoka has decided not to resign from his head coach position with Boston and will wait for whatever ruling the franchise comes to instead.

The Boston Celtics are reportedly likely to suspend Coach Ime Udoka for the entire 2022-23 season due to his alleged role in a consensual relationship with a female staff member, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Boston will name assistant coach Joe Mazzulla as interim coach while Udoka serves his suspension per Woj. Udoka led Boston to a runner-up finish in the 2022 NBA Finals, falling in six games to the Golden State Warriors. Boston went from being a .500 team in January to finishing as the second-seed in the Eastern Conference Finals thanks to their top-ranked defense.

After Boston announced its season-long suspension of Udoka, the embattled coach released the following statement where he apologized for putting the Celtics “in this difficult situation” and to the players, fans, and his family for “letting them down.”
