Borussia Dortmund swoop for Gross

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Germany international Pascal Gross from Brighton for an initial fee of £5.9million.

Gross spent seven years at the Amex, making 261 appearances in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and contributing 52 assists while helping establish Brighton as a Premier League force.

The 33-year-old midfielder was the club’s first acquisition after promotion from the Championship and chairman Tony Bloom described him as their “greatest-ever Premier League signing”.

Gross now links up with his boyhood club having signed a two-year contract.

He told bvb.de: “I’m really looking forward to experiencing BVB. For me, this change is a huge thing, because I’ve been a Dortmund fan since I was a little boy.

“I will try to pay back the club’s trust in my own way and can’t wait to play at Signal Iduna Park with my new team-mates in front of the BVB fans and to work together with everyone to achieve our big goals.”

Gross will add experience to a Dortmund squad that lost Marco Reus and Mats Hummels at the end of last season.

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “We are very happy to bring Pascal back to the Bundesliga. With his calmness on the ball, his outstanding passing, positional game and versatility, he gives our team new qualities.

“We are convinced he will strengthen us with his will to win and his personality.”
