‘Bill & Ted’ stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter to reunite on Broadway

Party on, dudes!

“Bill & Ted” stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are reuniting on Broadway. The iconic duo will star in the new stage production of Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot,” marking their first project together since 2020’s “Bill & Ted Face the Music.”

Reeves, 59, has signed on to play Estragon, while Winter, 59, will star as Vladimir in the show, directed by Jamie Lloyd.

“We’re incredibly excited to be on stage together and work with the great Jamie Lloyd in one of our favorite plays,” the co-stars in a joint statement per Variety on Thursday, August 1.

“Waiting for Godot” will be Reeves’ Broadway debut; however, he’s no stranger to performing. The actor has maintained a successful four-decade career on the big screen, starring in Hollywood classics like the “John Wick” series and “The Matrix” films.

His other notable work includes “Point Break” (1991), “Speed” (1994), “My Own Private Idaho” (1991), “Dangerous Liaisons” (1988), “The Gift” (2015) “Parenthood” (1989), “Something’s Gotta Give” (2003), and “Always Be My Maybe” (2019).

Reeves and Winter joined forces in 1989 with the comedy adventure “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” They reunited in 1991 for “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey” before coming together once again almost three decades later for “Bill & Ted Face the Music” (2020). Their last reunion had mixed reviews.

Winter has made his own name in Hollywood as an actor, writer, and director.

He recently wrapped production on “Adulthood,” opposite Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario. Winter also directed documentaries like “The YouTube Effect” (2022), “Zappa” (2020), “Showbiz Kids” (2020), and “The Panama Papers” (2018).

Unlike his “Bill & Ted” co-star, Winter has experience on Broadway — but it’s been decades. His stage credits include playing Louis Leonowens in the 1977 revival of “The King & I” and John Darling in the 1979 production of “Peter Pan.”

While fans anticipate Reeves and Winter’s reunion will be excellent, they’ll have to wait to see the “Bill & Ted” stars reunite.

“Waiting for Godot” is slated to open at an ATG theater in fall 2025, according to Variety.

The Jamie Lloyd Company, ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live, and Gavin Kalin Productions will produce the production. 101 Productions will reportedly serve as general manager.

The boys are in good hands with their award-winning stage director. Lloyd’s credits include “Romeo & Juliet,” “The Seagull,” “Sunset Blvd.,” “A Doll’s House,” “The Effect,” “The Seagull,” “Betrayal,” “Cyrano de Bergerac,” and more.

“It is a real honor to be collaborating with the brilliant Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter on Samuel Beckett’s sublime masterpiece—one of the greatest plays of all time,” Lloyd said in a statement.

He also told The New York Times that the project was Reeves’ idea.

“[It] was a no-brainer that this needed to be done,” he shared. “Their instant chemistry and their shorthand and their friendship is going to be so valuable. This is a very deeply complex play, as we all know, but it’s also a very funny play, and they’re very witty people and their shared sense of humor in those movies and in real life is going to be very beneficial to the production.”
