Player of the tournament

So many players have stepped up on the biggest stage this summer, therefore it makes naming the best player a very tough task.

Spain will dominate most conversations but they have several candidates who are in with a shout.

Lamine Yamal has stunned viewers who have not seen much of the 16-year-old from Barcelona, but there is perhaps a few more important players in the team.

Fabian Ruiz is another strong shout. The midfielder has enjoyed a brilliant tournament and has impressed with his dribbling and defensive work combined.

But the award simply has to go to Rodri.

He has had the better of every opponent he has faced and the Manchester City man has simply proved he is a level above any other midfielder on the continent.

Best match

Not every match was a classic this summer, but there have been a few spectacles.

Turkey’s 3-1 win over Georgia was a brilliant watch in Dortmund, with the rain, atmosphere and stakes all heightening the emotion inside the stadium.

Georgia vs Spain in the last 16 is also a match to remember, it was an entertaining match from the first whistle to the last.

But Austria’s 3-2 win over the Netherlands was a pure classic.

Ralf Rangnick has formed a really good squad as head coach and they stunned most of Europe with the win against the eventual semi-finalists.

Marcel Sabitzer’s late winner rounded off a perfect day as it meant Austria topped the group ahead of their opponents and France.

Goal of the tournament

There has been no shortage of stunning strikes at Euro 2024, but who owns the best hit of the summer?

Hakan Calhanoglou scored a scorcher against the Czech Republic, while his team-mate Samet Akaydin’s own goal against Portugal was equally as funny.

Jude Bellingham’s spectacular overhead kick against Slovakia in the last 16 is worth a mention.

The timing and audacity of such a strike from the Englishman made for a special moment, but there is one other strike that might just pip it.

Yamal’s curling effort against France in the semi-final has been played over and over again and it was a masterpiece.

The way it started miles outside the post before bouncing off it and into the goal and past a flailing Mike Maignan was simply magnificent.

Shoutout to Mert Muldur of Turkey as well though, his volley against Georgia would also be a worthy winner.

Team of the tournament

Now for the fun part, putting together a team of the tournament.

There shouldn’t be too many surprise names in here, but it is impossible to include everyone who has had a good few weeks in Germany.

In goal sits Jordan Pickford, who beats out Giorgi Mamardashvili largely thanks to his penalty heroics against Switzerland.

The defence is made up of Dani Carvajal, Pepe, Marc Guehi and Marc Cucurella, who have been solid options for their countries.

A midfield five of Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, Lamine Yamal and Jamal Musialia is hard to argue with, even if it does consist of mainly Spain players.

And up top, Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze earns his spot and could still yet earn a share of the Golden Boot, should Dani Olmo or Harry Kane fail to score.

Full team: Pickford, Carvajal, Pepe, Guehi, Cucurella, Rodri, Ruiz, Williams, Yamal, Musiala, Mikautadze.
