Bengals WR calls Patrick Mahomes vs Joe Burrow the new Manning-Brady

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd spoke about the upcoming matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, seeing similarities to Manning vs Brady.

The Bengals will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday for Week 13, the first time the two teams have faced each other since the AFC Championship Game last season. Many are excited to watch the matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, and Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd went as far as to compare it to Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady of the early 2000s.

Per Geoff Hobson of the Bengals’ official website, Boyd stated, “It’s going back to that quarterback fight. I look at it like Manning and Brady. You can’t stop them. It comes down to whoever excels and takes advantage of their opportunities in drives and scores points. These are the types of games that we have to take care of the football and not turn it over.”

While both Mahomes and Burrow are extremely talented players, it’s not quite to the level of Brady and Manning yet. It could be in the future, but there’s more to play out as Burrow is just starting his career and Mahomes is just getting settled into his.

Patrick Mahomes vs Joe Burrow isn’t quite as big as Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady…yet

Tom Brady is basically a household name, regardless of whether or not someone is a football fan. He’s widely considered the ‘greatest of all time,’ proving just how impactful his career has been. It took a lot to take him down, but Manning was a fair match, one of very few.

Mahomes and Burrow are some of the best quarterbacks in the league right now, but they haven’t done quite what Brady and Manning have done. Burrow is still fairly new on the scene after having a massive breakout last season and bringing the Bengals to the Super Bowl.

Mahomes is gaining a lot of attention as he’s been the Chiefs main starter since 2018. He’s undoubtedly a powerhouse, but Burrow has a little bit more time to play before a true rivalry can be formed.

In the near future, the matchup could certainly grow to be to the caliber of Brady vs Manning if both continue playing at such high levels. Boyd’s statement is understandable, but it’s slightly premature.
