AC Milan secured their place in the final of the Coppa Italia with a comprehensive 3-0 semi-final second-leg victory over city rivals Inter.

The tie was delicately poised at 1-1 going into the game but a brace from Luka Jovic and a goal from Tijjani Reijnders ensured Sergio Conceicao’s side reached the final, where they will face either Empoli or Bologna, who have a 3-0 advantage from the first-leg.

Inter could have been forgiven for having one eye on an important league match with Roma on Sunday and a Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Barcelona on Wednesday.

But Simone Inzaghi’s side, who are looking to retain their Serie A crown, were comfortably beaten by their fierce rivals at the San Siro.

In Serie A, fifth-placed Juventus were on the receiving end of a shock defeat as they were beaten 1-0 by strugglers Parma.

Mateo Pellegrino netted the only goal of the game for the hosts on the stroke of half-time as The Old Lady squandered the chance to leapfrog Bologna into fourth.

Fiorentina came from behind to win away at Cagliari 2-1 courtesy of goals from Robin Gosens and Luas Beltran, while former Southampton striker Che Adams was on the scoresheet as Torino beat Udinese 2-0.

An eventful game between Genoa and Lazio ended 2-0 to the latter thanks to goals from Valentin Castellanos and Boulaye Dia but both teams had a player sent off.

Meanwhile, in La Liga, Real Madrid closed the gap on leaders Barcelona to four points with a 1-0 win over Getafe.

Arda Guler grabbed the only goal of the game on 21-minutes as Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to make wholesale changes to the starting eleven ahead of Saturday’s Copa del Rey final showdown with their Catalan rivals ultimately paid off.

The result may prove to be crucial in keeping Real’s title hopes alive with five league games remaining. Following this weekend’s cup final, Los Blancos travel to Barcelona on 11 May in what could well prove to be a title decider.

Elsewhere in Spain, Athletic Club moved to within three points of third-placed Atletico with a 1-0 victory over Las Palmas.

Inaki Williams scored after five minutes to give the hosts the lead in what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Alaves kept gave their top flight survival hopes a significant boost as they ran out 1-0 winners over Basque rivals Real Sociedad thanks to Nahuel Tenaglia’s second-half goal.

The win lifts the strugglers out of the bottom three.

In the other Wednesday fixture, seventh-placed Celta Vigo enhanced their chances of securing European football next season with an impressive 3-0 victory over Villarreal in fifth.

The visitors had Eric Bailly sent off on 37-minutes before goals from Fer Lopez, Borja Iglesias and an Iago Aspas penalty gave the hosts a comfortable win.
