Aaron Gordon on Nikola Jokic: “He’s a maestro with a basketball”
After the Nuggets swept the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, forward Aaron Gordon expressed his admiration for his teammate Nikola Jokic and the strong bond they have developed both on and off the court.
Gordon highlighted the seamless chemistry he shares with Jokic during games, emphasizing their shared understanding of the game: “On the court, [the relationship] is really good from day one. We understand the game very well. He understands the game, makes it really simple. He sees you all over the floor, ushers you to make the right play just by kind of like a nod of the head or a look of the eyes. He’s a maestro with a basketball. He’s a savant, and it’s amazing playing somebody like that on the floor that understands the game.”
Off the court, Gordon praised Jokic’s depth and dry sense of humor, finding their interactions both enjoyable and humorous. Building a strong bond and chemistry with Jokic has been a positive experience for Gordon, and it has undoubtedly contributed to the team’s success throughout the playoffs.
“And then off the court it’s really cool how he’s a guy that has a lot of depth,” Gordon said. “There’s a lot of depth to him and he has a very dry sense of humor and absolutely hysterical. It’s been fun getting to know him and building that bond and building that chemistry. It’s been great.”
In the series-clinching victory over the Lakers, Jokic once again showcased his exceptional skills, recording a triple-double with 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 13 assists.
The Nuggets’ sweep of the Lakers not only marked their first-ever playoff series win against the Lakers but also secured their first appearance in the NBA Finals in franchise history.
