Newcastle set to beat Manchester United to French teenager in deal worth up to 35m euros
Newcastle United are set to beat Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund to the signing of teenage sensation Hugo Ekitike this summer, as per widespread reports.
The French striker were on the verge of signing the 19 year old in January, only for Ekitike to opt to remain in France with Reims for the remainder of the campaign. In that time, he also attracted the attention of European giants Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund, both of whom are on the hunt for new forwards.
Despite the late onslaught of interest, however, it seems as though the newly-rich Magpies have continued to lead the race for his signature, with trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that the teen has agreed a five year deal with Eddie Howe’s side.

Europe calling?
Having enjoyed such a strong finish to the 2021/22 season, the next step for the Magpies has to be a push for Europe. They will be far from alone, however. In addition to the traditional ‘top six’, West Ham and Leicester City will likely strengthen, while Aston Villa have already completed three new additions under Steven Gerrard and Brighton appear to be on an upward trajectory.
It means that, unlike Manchester City, Newcastle United will not be able to shoot straight to the top.
