5 QBs who could be the next Brock Purdy
Brock Purdy may be one-of-one, but that will not stop NFL teams from trying to find the next diamond in the rough at the quarterback position.
It may have ended poorly in the NFC Championship Game vs. the Philadelphia Eagles, but the San Francisco 49ers did strike gold with Brock Purdy with the very last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
While Purdy had an excellent college career at Iowa State, a down final season in Ames largely contributed to him being Mr. Irrelevant. Although he suffered a ghastly elbow injury in what was his first professional loss, Purdy once again proved to everyone that NFL teams can find hidden gems anywhere in the draft. Heck, half of the league is undrafted, and some even go to Canton!
It may not happen again this spring, but here are the five best bets on finding this year’s Purdy.

Jaren Hall
QB BYU Cougars
Jaren Hall has a chance at being a better pro, for the money, than Zach Wilson
There are a few reasons why the BYU Cougars are going Power Five next year. Although they have a national following due to their LDS affiliation, BYU has a proud football history. To date, the 1984 Cougars are the only “mid-major” program to win a national championship. Frankly, the fact BYU has not been a Power Five program is mind-boggling. They have excellent players like Jaren Hall.
While Hall will not derive the praise or fanfare of his Jet Blue heir predecessor, we know that he was well-coached from his time in Provo under Kalani Sitake. He may have had more draft hype entering last season, but Hall has put enough good film on tape the last two years to merit being drafted. The good news for him is he will not be hopelessly overdrafted, so it gives him a chance.
Of the five quarterbacks on this list, Hall is probably the most developmental. Think of him being more of the Jordan Love project-type quarterback coming out of Utah State. No doubt about it, the talent is there. However, it probably serves Hall to be a backup for a few years before getting his turn to shine as the starter. How he plays in the Senior Bowl could help shape his overall narrative.
Wilson may have failed with Gang Green, but more often than not, BYU players thrive on Sundays.
