Former No. 2 pick massacres Jets fan on Twitter over Zach Wilson
Former second-overall pick Ryan Leaf trolled a fan for comparing him to New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.
It has been a bad past couple of days for New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson. He only threw for 77 yards and threw just nine completions in the team’s demoralizing 10-3 loss to the rival New England Patriots. After the game, Wilson didn’t exactly help his case when he said he didn’t feel like he let the defense down.
On Monday, head coach Robert Saleh revealed that they would evaluate the starting quarterback position heading into their Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears. On Wednesday, Saleh announced that Wilson would not be the starter, instead giving the nod to Mike White.
Prior to the announcement, the top 13 picks of the 2021 NFL Draft were circulated across social media in regards to who the Jets passed up on to draft Wilson at the No. 2 spot. One Jets fan responded to the tweet saying “really can’t believe we picked Mormon Ryan Leaf.”
That fan then received the notification that Leaf, the former second-overall pick in 1998 by the then-San Diego Chargers, responded to their tweet. Leaf said, “Yes you can, you’re the Jets. It’s what you do.”

The fan decided to send a response to Leaf, which included a swear word. Leaf responded to the fan once again saying, “I’ve had a better life than Jets fans the last decade and spent three of those years in prison, respectfully of course.”
Well, that fan had a day on Twitter that they’ll never forget.
Leaf, of course, was selected right after the Indianapolis Colts selected Peyton Manning with the No. 1 overall pick. In his four year career, Leaf recorded 3,666 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 36 interceptions on a 48.4 completion percentage in 25 games. In 21 starts, Leaf compiled a 4-17 win-loss record. He is considered to be one of the biggest busts in NFL history.
Wilson may not have entered that territory just yet, but his play this year has been alarming. That all came to a head against the Patriots, as he couldn’t hit his targets, notably overthrowing them on checkdowns. To make matters worse, the Jets punted the ball more times (10) than Wilson threw a completion (9).
On the year, Wilson threw for 1,279 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 55.6-percent of his passes. He has a 5-2 record as a starter this season, with the two losses both coming against the Patriots.
Last year, White helped lead the Jets to an upset victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Jets fans will be watching to see if he can replicate that magic when they take on the Bears.
