Francia Raísa responds to Selena Gomez’s Taylor Swift friend quote
Francia Raísa appeared to raise an eyebrow at Selena Gomez’s recent comment that Taylor Swift her “only friend in the industry.”
“Interesting,” Raísa — who donated a kidney to Gomez in 2017 — reportedly wrote in a since-deleted comment on a post about the quote.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the “Lose You to Love Me,” said, “I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong.”
The quote was posted by E! News, where Raísa, an actress, allegedly left the comment that has since disappeared, but captured by Pop Crave.
The media site also noted that Raísa, who’s been friends with Gomez since 2007, doesn’t follow the singer anymore.
Fans immediately took to the comments to speculate over the perceived dig and it’s unclear if she was specifically speaking of the music industry.
“What about Francia? I mean, she gave Selena a Kidney 🥺,” one fan wrote, while another joked, “The way i’d ask for my kidney back.”
“Plz this is petty af. Francia could’ve reached out to Selena in private to clarify what she meant in this interview,” a Selena fan stated. “Because clearly she meant that Taylor is the only international superstar/insanely famous person that she’s friends with”
Another fan noted, “the fact that she gave selena a kidney doesn’t mean she gets to jump to random ass conclusions, unfollow selena and act weird under enews posts when selena didn’t even do anything to offend her – she can just directly talk to her if something feels wrong. this is not it.
Raísa donated a kidney to Gomez — who suffers from lupus — in 2017, but the next year the pals were rumored to be feuding.
The two reportedly reconciled in 2021 after Raísa posted about the process of kidney donation to her Twitter as well as in an Instagram, though the latter has also been deleted. Raísa even attended Gomez’s 30th birthday party in July.
Even though Gomez spoke about receiving a kidney to Rolling Stone, her direct quotes on the experience make no mention of the Raísa being her donor.
Meanwhile, Swift and Gomez first became friends in 2008 when they were each dating one of the Jonas Brothers.
“It was the best thing we got out of those relationships,” Gomez once said.
Most recently, Swift congratulated Gomez on the premiere of her Apple TV+ documentary, “My Mind & Me.”
“So proud of you @selenagomez Love you forever [teary eyed emoji],” she wrote on Instagram.
