Mitch Trubisky’s throw chart belongs right in the garbage can

Pittsburgh Steelers fans will not like the throw chart of quarterback Mitch Trubisky’s performance in Week 2 against the New England Patriots.

The Pittsburgh Steelers started off their season on a high note after they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime on the road. In Week 2, they had the chance to get a win at home against the New England Patriots. Instead, they lost 17-14, and quarterback Mitch Trubisky did not exactly inspire the fanbase at Acrisure Stadium with his performance, completing 21-of-33 pass attempts for 168 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Steelers fans were not happy about the performance by Trubisky, so much so that those in the stadium were chanting for rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett. Those very fans will not be happy seeing Trubisky’s throw chart, courtesy of NFL Next Gen Stats.

Steelers: Mitch Trubisky’s Week 2 throw chart will not make fans happy

Out of the 21 completions made by Trubisky, 15 of them were less than 10 yards. Five of those completed passes were behind the line of scrimmage. He attempted four passes longer than 20 yards, and only completed one of them.

Not the ideal playing chart for Trubisky.

In fact, former Steelers head coach and current CBS Sports analyst Bill Cowher said that Trubisky “is more worried about not making mistakes than he is about making plays.”

When asked about Trubisky’s performance in his postgame press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin said that he needs to look at the tape, but that team collectively did not make enough plays, including the quarterback.

The team used the 20th overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft on Pickett, who played college football at Pittsburgh. He was dubbed the most pro-ready prospect in the class, and he impressed the Steelers throughout the preseason. To be specific, Pickett 29-of-26 pass attempts for 261 yards and three touchdowns through all three of Pittsburgh’s plays.

Pittsburgh will look to bounce back next week when they take on the rival Cleveland Browns. Steelers fans will certainly hope that Trubisky has a better showing.
