Meghan McCain reached across the aisle to wish former President Joe Biden a speedy recovery amid his recent cancer diagnosis.
After Biden announced the news Sunday afternoon, McCain issued a warm message to the former president on social media. “Cancer is the absolute worst. It is hell,” the former View co-host wrote on X. “Wishing nothing but healing, prayers, light and strength to President Biden and his family. I don’t believe times like these are appropriate for politics.”
McCain, who is the daughter of former Republican senator and presidential candidate John McCain, was a staunch critic of Biden’s politics while on the show. During her time on The View, McCain spoke out against the Biden for being pro-abortion and blamed his administration for failing to address vaccine hesitancy amid the COVID pandemic.
McCain and Biden once shared a touching moment on The View in 2017 after her father was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the same form of cancer that Biden’s son Beau had passed away from. Her father later passed away in 2018.
“There is hope… If anyone can make it, it’s your dad,” Biden told her on the show as he clasped her hand.
“The thing that I’ve found was, and Beau insisted on and your dad is gonna insist on, is you gotta maintain hope. There’s hope, you have to have hope,” Biden told her on the show.
Biden’s office announced the news of his cancer diagnosis Sunday afternoon, reportedly days after learning it themselves.
“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read, per ABC News.
It continued, “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
