Match Preview for Real Madrid v Leganes
This is the time of the season in which Real Madrid traditionally go through the gears and usually end up with silverware.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted now was the moment for focus when he spoke to the media prior to the game with Leganes tomorrow.
At the end of the first international break of 2025, the Italian said: “The players have returned in good shape. The final stretch of the season begins and we have to do it well. There is increased responsibility because every game can be decisive.”
Madrid head into the game against Leganes three points adrift of leaders Barcelona after the Catalans won their game in hand, 3-0 against Osasuna in a rearranged clash last night.
Hansi Flick’s men have the advantage but Ancelotti knows there is plenty of time left to turn the title race around.
“No, La Liga is not done,” he said. “Barcelona has an advantage, but we have the Clásico [still to play, in May] and there are many games left.
“We have to do as much as possible, starting tomorrow. Hopefully we have 17 games left, because that means that we will fight in all competitions until the end.”

The games come thick and fast for Madrid over the next few weeks. They play Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Tuesday – they won the first leg 1-0 – before hosting Valencia in the league next Saturday in the third of three successive home games.
They then go to Arsenal for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on April 8.
With such a hectic schedule, Ancelotti admitted he may consider rotating his players over the coming weeks. He added: “We have many games and I have the possibility, which has not happened many times, to rotate some players because almost all of them are quite good. You can see the lineup tomorrow.”
Leganes will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu occupying the final place in the relegation zone and having won just one of their last eight league games.
They do have the ability to surprise, however, having won 1-0 at Barcelona in December and beaten Atletico Madrid by the same score in January.

The home side will be without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has a “minor problem” according to Ancelotti, while Ferland Mendy and Dani Ceballos could return for the Arsenal game.
Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal are both out for the rest of the season.
