Ruben Amorim has told Andre Onana to “forget the past” and has called for support as the Manchester United goalkeeper looks put recent mistakes behind him.
Onana has had mixed fortunes since being brought in as David De Gea’s replacement in 2023 from Inter Milan.
The 28-year-old has occasionally shown glimpses of the brilliance displayed in Inter’s 2023 Champions League final defeat to Manchester City which helped prompt United to fork out £47million for his services.
But his time at the Red Devils has also been marred by a series of rudimentary errors, the most recent of which coming during United’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich in midweek when a mix-up with Patrick Dorgu allowed Jaden Philogene to score.

Question marks remain over the quality and consistency of the United number one, but his manager has come to his defence by calling for support for the shotstopper.
“There was some difficult moments,” Amorim said. “But this season he [Onana] did some great saves that save our team.
“I think if you look through our team you can find a lot of players with that issue, so I think we are not performing so well as a team and sometimes some players have problems.
“We just have to support Andre, like we support all the players, and prepare the next game. Forget about the past and prepare the future.”
Onana will have another chance to silence the critics when United host Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday, with back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and third-choice Tom Heaton both still injured.
The Red Devils are the competition holders after beating Manchester City 2-1 in last year’s final at Wembley.
