Giants’ Brian Daboll won’t relinquish play-calling as season spirals
Following a 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium — a moment that represented a new low for the New York Giants — nothing will change.
Head coach Brian Daboll informed reporters on Monday morning that it will remain business as usual in East Rutherford, and that includes the play-calling.
“We’ll stay status quo here in terms of how we prepare, particularly on this short week. But certainly, got to do a better job,” Daboll said.
The Giants are dead last in the NFL, averaging 14.8 points per game. That’s down from 15.6 points per game last season when assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka was calling the plays.
But that won’t be the only thing that remains the same. Daboll added that quarterback Tommy DeVito, assuming he’s healthy enough, will remain the team’s starter.
“Yeah, I obviously got to talk to the training staff, I’m hopeful. But I don’t know, I haven’t talked to the training staff,” he said.
“I have not talked to the training staff yet. So, I’ll wait until they give me the update, then we’ll see where we’re at. But I’m anticipating he’ll be ready to go.”
Doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results… There’s a word for that.
