Five-star recruit Darryn Peterson makes commitment to Kansas

Darryn Peterson is heading to Lawrence, Kansas.

The five-star guard — the top at the position in his class — has made his college commitment to Kansas ahead of his senior season in high school, he announced Friday.

“This was a very hard decision,” Peterson told ESPN after his decision. “Ultimately, it was the coaching of Bill Self and the culture of their program. My heart and gut were with Kansas.

Peterson, 17, attends Prolific Prep in California, transferring there from high-profile school and basketball factory Huntington Prep in West Virginia, which has produced numerous NBA talent (Andrew Wiggins, Miles Bridges, Keldon Johnson and Jonathan Kuminga) in recent years.

Peterson, a native of Ohio and a Class of 2025 6-foot-5 wing had an official visit to Kansas on June 23, according to Rivals.

Rivals has Peterson ranked as the No. 3 recruit among the top Class of 2025.

Peterson also had offers from Kansas State, Ohio State, Kentucky and USC.

The Jayhawks are coming off back-to-back second-round NCAA Tournament exits but are just three seasons removed from their most recent NCAA Championship.
