49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk feared to be out for season after horrific-looking injury
A rough season for Brandon Aiyuk just got worse.
The star San Francisco 49ers receiver, who held out until getting a $120 million extension before the start of the season, was carted off with a horrible-looking knee injury during the team’s 28-18 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Aiyuk took a shot after making a catch and his knee hypertended in a direction it seemingly wasn’t intended to, and he was done for the day.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan admits that the fear is a torn ACL, meaning Aiyuk would be done for the season.
The play continues a down period for Aiyuk, who has had a slow start to the season after getting the money he earned with his play before 2024.
The 2020 first-round pick was a Second Team All-Pro last season after hauling in 75 passes for a career-high 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Aiyuk this season had been limited to 23 receptions for 351 receiving yards and hadn’t scored a touchdown.
The 49ers, who are now 3-4 on the season, haven’t confirmed the exact injury or timeline for Aiyuk, but it didn’t look good in the moment.
Aiyuk left the game with two catches for 23 yards.
The 49ers will look to get back to .500 next week when they face the Dallas Cowboys, who are on a bye and will be well-rested ahead of their trip to San Francisco.
