Manning: Jayden Daniels won over Washington before training camp ever started. It had nothing to do with his play on the field, either. It’s cliche, but Daniels was truly the first player to arrive throughout the spring and OTAs, impressing his older teammates. When it got to training camp, Daniels continued that momentum, easily beating out veteran Marcus Mariota for the starting job.

Daniels impressed the Jets and Dolphins in Washington’s joint practices, carving up Miami’s defense. In Week 1, Daniels missed a few throws, as Washington’s game plan was for him to get rid of the ball quickly to help slow down Tampa Bay’s pass rush. He missed one deep ball to Terry McLaurin, which would have been a long touchdown.

It was a close game then, and Daniels took responsibility later.
