One key stat to know about each Islanders offensive player

Picking up right where we left off a week ago: one stat from last season that will dictate the course of this season for every Islanders forward:

15:46: Anthony Duclair’s average time on ice

Going from the Sharks to the Lightning midseason, as Duclair did, makes for a lot of statistical noise. It’s pretty tough to judge a guy’s Corsi percentage when he went from the worst team in the league to a contender in the middle of the year, but if you’re curious, Duclair’s went from 41.65 with San Jose to 50.11 with Tampa.

What sticks out for a player the Islanders are hoping slots into their top line is that Duclair has never played the kind of minutes his presumed linemates, Mat Barzal and Bo Horvat, usually rack up. It’s not clear whether Duclair will be on the top power play unit, so just looking at five-on-five, Duclair played 27.4 percent of available minutes last season across his two stops, which tied for his career-high. Horvat checked in at 29.8 percent, Barzal at 32 percent — and that doesn’t account for both players getting PP1 minutes.
