Drew Lock can give Giants spark if Daniel Jones flops

The quarterback position is by far the most important position on the football field at any given time. The quarterback controls the flow of the game, keeps the offense on the same page, and is responsible for putting points on the board.

And when your starting quarterback goes down with an injury, you really need your backup to keep the momentum going.

The New York Giants learned last year just how important a solid backup quarterback can be. It’s what ultimately led to the signing of Drew Lock after Tyrod Taylor chose to sign with the New York Jets.

As backups go, Lock is solid enough. And one NFL analyst recently grouped backup quarterbacks by ability. Drew Lock landed in Tier 3 with Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report suggesting he can give the Giants a “spark” if Jones flops.

The quarterbacks in Tier 3 can command a huddle, but they will frustrate you with repeated errors or limitations beyond their control.

Lock can give the Giants a spark if Daniel Jones flops again, but since 2020, he’s thrown for nearly the same number of touchdowns (21) and interceptions (20).

Lock was drafted by Denver in 2019 and traded to Seattle after the 2021 season. Over his four-year career, he has completed 469 of 786 passes for 5,283 yards and 28 touchdowns. He’s also thrown 23 interceptions and been sacked 28 times.

Everyone wants to see Jones stay healthy and compete. However, he is prone to injury and in his absence — assuming there is one — the Giants need a reliable solution. Moton believes Lock can be that guy.
