“Our principal concern at this time is Christian’s health and wellbeing,” the Patriots said in a statement. “… While there is no current timetable for his return, we know Christian is getting tremendous care and we look forward to his full recovery.”

Patriots trainer Jim Whalen’s handling of the situation drew praise from Baremore’s agent Nicole Lynn, who thanked him for “his absolute diligence and care over the last couple of days.”

“Today could have looked a lot different without Jim’s persistent and expertise,” Lynn wrote on X.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Barmore, who is going into his fourth season in New England, signed a four-year maximum contract extension in April worth $92 million with $41.8 million guaranteed.

Barmore, a projected starter this season, has played in 44 regular season games, starting 11 and tallying 113 tackles and 12.5 sacks.
