Kyle Walker ‘sad’ to be without Rashford and Henderson in England squad

Kyle Walker admits he is ‘a little bit sad’ that Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson were omitted from England’s Euro 2024 squad.

The Man City man, who turns 34 next week, however backed Gareth Southgate’s view that it was ‘the best thing for the country.’

Southgate’s 33-strong provisional party for the tournament in Germany includes a dozen players who have won two or fewer caps, with injury concerns lingering over a host of players after the end of the Premier League season.

Walker is one of only five players in the group who have won more than 50 caps – Jordan Pickford, Harry Maguire, John Stones and Harry Kane are the others.

Walker told Sky Sports: “If the gaffer thinks it’s the right squad to pick, I believe and I fully trust in what he does. He’s been fantastic since the minute he has walked through the door.

“Obviously when you have shared such great moments with the likes of Marcus and Hendo and been on a journey together you do feel a little bit sad they are not going to be there.

“But the manager thinks that’s the best thing for the country and I am fully behind him and fully back him in that.”

England’s squad will need to be cut to 26 by June 7.
