Borussia Dortmund have “secret plan” to sign Jadon Sancho – Man United News And Transfer News

Borussia Dortmund are unwilling to meet Manchester United’s demands to sign Jadon Sancho this summer but remain hopeful they will be able to strike a compromise over the 24-year-old winger.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person last month revealed Old Trafford officials have set a price tag of £40-50 million for Sancho – a considerable loss on the £73 million United forked out to sign him from Dortmund in the first place.

There is no realistic prospect Sancho returning to the first-team at United when his loan deal at Dortmund expires at the end of the season, with neither the club nor the player open to the idea.

As such, both parties are keen for a permanent solution to be reached this summer, with Sancho open to remaining in Germany.

Dortmund are equally keen to secure the services of their former pupil but will not pay the price United have set. The Daily Mail reveal the Germany club “have not given up on the hope of signing the 24-year-old for a discounted price,” however.

The report contends Dortmund officials have established “secret plans” designed to lower the fee United are demanding. One option being explored is another loan deal with the option to purchase at a later while. Another is a potential “player-plus-cash deal” involving Dortmund forward, Donyell Malen.

Sancho’s current deal at Old Trafford runs until 2026, though the club retains the option to extend it by twelve months should they wish.

This contractual situation means United will need to sell Sancho for a minimum of £29.2 million in order for his departure to not incur a negative hit from a financial fair play (FFP) perspective.

Having signed Sancho for £73 million in 2021, FFP rules dictate his transfer fee is amortised over his five-year contract. This results in a hit of £14.6 million per year until 2026. With twenty-four months remaining on his deal, United will need to sell the winger for a fee in excess of £30 million to help their FFP situation this summer.

This explains why a price tag of £40 million has been set as the minimum fee United will accept for Sancho. But the wiggle room that exists within this framework is likely the one Dortmund officials are seeking to exploit in order to strike a “discounted price”.

Similarly, if Dortmund were to re-sign Sancho on loan next season, it would mean United would only need to sell Sancho for £15 million or more to produce a positive FFP boost in the summer of 2025.

However, given the comprehensive overhaul INEOS will want this summer, a delayed decision on Sancho’s long-term future is extremely unlikely. United’s new executives will want to move on from a costly mistake while maximising as much FFP flexibility from Sancho’s departure as possible.
