After the Cowboys cut Ezekiel Elliott, let’s break down three teams that could help the running back bounce back in 2023.

After seven years with the franchise, the Dallas Cowboys released running back Ezekiel Elliott. He will be designated a post-June 1 cut. The move will save the Cowboys approximately $11 million in 2023 cap space.

The 27-year-old is coming off a down year, in which he posted career-lows in rushing yards (876) and yards per carry (3.8).

Elliott may not be at his All-Pro peak, but he still has the potential to contribute to an NFL team. Landing in the right situation will be key for the veteran.

Here are three teams that he could bounce back with in 2023.

3. Los Angeles Rams

Last season, the Los Angeles Rams struggled to run the football. They were tied for 27th in both yards per carry (4.0) and rushing yards per game (97.7).

The Rams currently have two options at running back: 2020 second-round pick Cam Akers and 2022 fifth-round pick Kyren Williams. Across his first three seasons, Akers has not done enough to solidify the lead back position. He is averaging 4.2 yards per carry. For a brief moment, the team appeared to turn to Williams as the top option. However, he only averaged 4.0 yards per carry and failed to record a single broken tackle as a rusher.

Both running backs are still young and have potential, but it could benefit the Rams to add a veteran. Elliott could be a nice fit. He would provide them with a physical runner; he had 10 total broken tackles last season. Furthermore, Elliott is only two years removed from averaging 2.1 yards after contact per rush.

However, do the Rams put Elliott in a position to succeed? Matthew Stafford is coming off a major injury, and they do not have an elite offensive line.

It is an intriguing gamble for both the Rams and Elliott.
