3 players who will never get another shot at a Super Bowl

As the Philadelphia Eagles gear up for one of their biggest games in recent history, we take a look at which players could have their best (and only) chance to win a ring this year.

The Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl five years ago and are days away from winning their second. If 2017 was any indication, Philly winning the Lombardi Trophy is….a big freaking deal.

Cue car fires. Cue smashed windows. Cue all-around chaos. The Eagles head into Sunday’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs as the slight favorites, but given the ever fickle nature of the sport, you could say all bets are off. If you are inclined to bet on this game, just take the over on how many times the TV crew cuts to the Kelce parents in the stands.

Nothing will compare to Nick Foles upsetting Tom Brady in the Eagles’ first Super Bowl win. That is okay. Legends will stay legends (and hopefully will stay retired for good).

When it comes to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy this season, though, no win will taste sweeter for these Eagles players who may not get another chance to compete at this level in their lifetime.

3. Ndamukong Suh

If there is indeed an NFL script, Eagles defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been stealing it from right under Roger Goodell’s nose.

Suh chose to play for Philadelphia in the middle of the 2022 season, and earlier in his career, he chose to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams.

All three teams have reached the Super Bowl during Suh’s time there, and Suh even won himself a ring with Tampa in 2020. Call it luck, coincidence, or just some otherworldly intuition, but Suh knows how to pick ’em.

Unfortunately, this year could be his last.

Philly acquired Suh on a one-year contract after the team was dealt their first loss of the season in Week 10. At the time, the 35-year-old tackle considered a move to the San Francisco 49ers as well, ultimately dodging a massive bullet there.

Suh has only played 35 percent of defensive snaps in Philly in 2022 and is part of a heavy rotation with the likes of Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, and Milton Williams, among others. He was added as a crucial depth piece when Philly’s run defense was sagging in the middle, and half a season later, there’s no doubt he’s made a sizeable impact in the trenches so far.

As one of the Eagles’ shrewdest acquisitions, Suh served as a much-needed veteran presence and has put his aging albeit impenetrable body on the line this year: since Suh joined the team, the Eagles’ defense has allowed just 114.4 rushing yards and 19.1 points per game.

Suh could be considered a D-line ringer of sorts — he’s here for a good time, not a long time, and he wants more than anything to get his hands on the Lombardi Trophy again.
