11 things we learned from Episode 2
In the final moments of episode 2, Schoen talked with Ed Berry, the agent of Saquon Barkley, and explained that they didn’t want to disrespect him with a lacking offer. Instead, Schoen explained, they’d allow him to test the open market.
After that chat, Schoen called Barkley, who sounded uninterested in the conversation and somewhat frustrated with the GM.
“Can you give me your word on that or are you not going to give us a chance,” Schoen asks Barkley about potentially matching any free agent offers.
“I mean, I already told you where I want to be, so…” a chilly Barkley said as his voice trailed off.
“I love you, man, I appreciate everything you did for the organization, the two years I was here,” Schoen told Barkley. “I’m not saying we’re not gonna get something done, but I think it’s right, if for some reason it doesn’t work out, you know the organization thinks the world of you and everything you’ve done. But, hopefully, you go out there, you see the market and you say, you know what, I want to be here, and you give us a shout back.”
That conversation ultimately proved to be a goodbye.
